Rainy day running and I still don’t really like goat cheese… and a special announcement!

I made up a pretty sweet workout last night!  It was raining and I just really didn’t feel like getting soaked walking into the gym.  So I started driving back to my apartment thinking about how I could still get in a good workout.  I realized my parking garage at my building is basically a giant hill, and I haven’t done speed training on hills in forever!  I clocked from the ground level up to the 5th where my apartment is and it was about .4 miles.  So each run down and back would be .8 miles.  So I went inside, set up my bike on my trainer and did this workout:

  • 20 minutes tempo ride on the trainer
  • 2 run up and down the parking garage =1.5 miles
  • 20 minutes tempo bike
  • 3 down and back up
  • 20 minute tempo bike
  • 2 down and back up
  • 5×50 yd sprints on the top floor

It was hard!  But it DEFINITELY broke up the monotony of the treadmill and was great speed and hill work.  I would sprint the up and down ramps and just go regularly hard on the flat levels.  Each direction had 6 ramps so I got a lot of work in.

Looks flat, but about 40 degree incline

Pretty sore today though!  Running hills and speed work are crucial to becoming a better runner and get in overall better shape.  It trains the body to adapt to different terrains and elevations, thus by default making you work harder and easier, similar to intervals.  It also prepares your body for real races where the terrain is going to vary.

After I finished all that, I came to grill up some chicken and try out a new product I found: Cinnamon Cranberry goat cheese.  Now, I’ve tried goat cheese before and haven’t been a huge fan of it, but I though with this flavor, maybe some magical would happen.

Cranberry Cinnamon goat cheese...

I figured the flavor would pair well with another new item I found, Butter Toffee Almonds.  These are good!…but they are made for salads so they are already slivered, therefore, there’s only so much flavor that you can really taste.  Nice thought though!  If I ever find whole almonds that are Butter Toffee flavor I”ll be all about it.

I put the two of these together on a baked sweet potato

As I said, not bad, but I probably won’t make it again, considering I already gave the goat cheese to a girl at work haha.

Tonight I challenged myself and ate an avocado!  Even though I know how incredibly healthy avocados are and that they are a fantastic source of healthy fat, the fact that they have a lot of fat has always led me to claim “I didn’t like them” as an excuse to avoid them.  Well I wouldn’t say its better than cheddar cheese, but I put the slices on some chicken tacos I made and it was really good!  The texture is incredibly creamy and added a lot to the overall “taco eating experience”!  I could go on about all the benefits of avocados, but if you have any questions leave a comment and ask!

Avocado y'all

I used Avocados!

Any ideas for using the leftover half I haven’t used yet?  Oh, and my new racing kicks came today!  Can’t wait to do a race in these babies- they are so light!
