The Nations Triathlon: Dry-land in DC

My first mug shot

No really—I wanted to swim!  As shocking as that sounds coming from me, I was incredibly bummed when I found out the swim portion of the Nations Tri this past Sunday would be cancelled.  Due to the hurricane, the second hurricane that kept the aforementioned hurricane stuck on land pounding DC, and the earthquake, the Potomac River was a mess of debris and runoff.  I have been working weekly with my swim coach though, and wanted to see what kind of changes this may have on my stroke.

I was so bummed, I almost backed out of this race and thought about heading down to Williamsburg to race the Patriots Half Ironman.  However, I would have had to figure out how to get my bike there, how to get it back, all the other travel arrangements, but the biggest reason I didn’t was that the Half Ironman was on Saturday not Sunday and I just didn’t have time to work everything out.

Race Morning

Transition overlooking the Mall... Pretty moving

But I’m really glad I stuck with the Nations Tri, and Olympic distance race—it was a blast.  Over 3,900 people were in the race and the entire event was huge.  The format was done in the same way as the swim waves would start—every 15 seconds letting about 15 people run into transition based on your age group.  It was a mess of corrals, but when my group went off, we sprinted into transition, grabbed our bikes and gear, and headed out.  My new tri shoes and pedals from Exustar are awesome and made a huge difference in my transition time!

The bike was pretty fast with some rolling hills and was very crowded due to the starting format.  It made the course much like an Ironman race where there are just so many people.  I wouldn’t say that there was any drafting, but definitely a lot passing and riding near people.  I felt like the entire “out” portion of the course was downhill and was nervous that the entire return would be uphill… but I guess I was mistaken since coming back was just as fast if not better!  My overall bike split for the 40k was 1:06:17, which was over 22 mph.  I was really pleased with this—love that Felt!

**Scary side note—proceed reading with discretion: On the way back on the bike, there was an ambulance on the side of the road.  I look over and saw the EMTs performing CPR on a guy laying on the ground.  I’ve never felt so sick as I did then and it was all I could think about for the rest of the bike.  Most of the time spent riding after that was praying for this guy hoping he would be ok.  Unfortunately, I found out the next day that man actually died.  So please say a prayer for him.

Run Finish

I can’t tell you how motivating it was to see my mom and dad cheering for me as I left T2 and headed out on the run.  They don’t get to make it to a lot of races, so to get up at 4:45 to drive me to the course means so much to me.  Ha, apparently my dad wasn’t too pleased that I “couldn’t even smile at them” when I ran by, but sorry pops, I don’t smile at all on the course.  It’s business.  But my dad is such an awesome guy- He wanted “sun protection” and snagged this hat from another family.  Yes… we recycled a hat from the Dollar Store…

Too bad I wear this

The run was a fun one and was relatively flat except for a long hill at the beginning..  Or I think that was the only hill… I dunno, I just kind of get in my zone as run.  I’m always cognizant of everything and am very focused on how hard I’m pushing and I always remember how much it hurt.  However, if you asked me to recall the whole course, I wouldn’t be able to do it… although I could probably remember all the funny things I thought while running.  I spent most of time passing people and had no real issues at all.  I felt good and just get repeating my mantra to myself that I always using during races: “Speed, Strength, Fluidity”.  This helps me keep focused on the most important aspects of the run.  Coming down the home stretch, I saw my mom screaming and just turned on the afterburners and passed a few more people as I broke the finish line.

My run time was a 38:46, although I “think” the course may have been a bit short—however, as a sanctioned race, it should officially be the required 10k, so I’ll have to believe the Race Directors.  This was a pace of 6:15 minutes/mile.  But if it were a bit short, it may have been close to 6:20.  I was happy with this regardless!!

Overall, I finished 34th of 362 in my age group (top 9.4%), and 265th of 3884 overall (top 6.8%) and my final time was 1:49:38, sans the swim.  Overall this was a great race and could definitely see myself doing it again next year.  It was so incredible.

Done!

Then I went home, ate, changed, and was back on a plane for Tampa by 5:00.  Nothing like meetings  at work to cut a trip short.

Dueces DC

From here on out I’m basically racing every weekend: THIS WEEK!! 9/25 Ironman 70.3 Augusta (half Ironman), 10/1 Disney Wine and Dine Half Marathon, 10/09 Rev3 South Carolina (Half Ironman), 10/15 Men’s Health Chicago Urbanathlon!  It’s gonna be a blast!

Then ITU Worlds on 11/05 to end the triathlon year.  However, I would like to do a marathon if there is a convenient one by the end of the year.  I also want to do the Tough Mudder in Tampa!  A hella-crazy 12-mile adventure race on 12/03.

If anyone is doing any of these races, let me know and lets meet up! Or if you live between Tampa and South Carolina/Georgia and can house me for a night, lol, let me know!

Yo check out my new kicks

LunarGlide+ 3

And to do fuel this, I’ve tried out a few new spur of the moment recipes this past week!  Also, I tried to focus my nutrition very well in the days leading up to this race: check out my pre-race day lunch:

Grass-Fed buffalo steak- had this with a sweet potato chips in coconut oil

Here is what I should have had for my pre-race breakfast…

Yup, ostrich eggs. Nice work Whole Foods

Earlier his week I made Blackberry jam and goat cheese stuffed chicken breast.  I coated a breast in some coconut flour, then filled it and just baked it.  Very good!  But don’t overcook the chicken:

Pre-baked

Final Result

And gotta love coconut parmesan sweet potato fries

Later this week there are definitely a few topics I want to talk about mostly.  Mostly about living what I say, “racing weight”, and self-sabotage which I am becoming very guilty of.  I think I could have even better results if I treated my body and mind better.  Goals?  I think so.

I know this comes over a week after it all happened and a lot has gone in between, but I figured I would pare it down and keep it basic so this doesn’t turn into a novel.  More to come soon!

  1. What was the best part of your weekend?
  2. What do you have planned between now and the end of the year that you are excited about? (Anything!)

Changes and Challenges

I had another triathlon this weekend… but since my past 2 posts have pretty much all been about triathlons, I’ll keep this recap short, ha.  This race was at the country’s “Number 1 Beach” at Siesta Key Beach in Sarasota, Florida, about an hour south of Tampa.  It was gorgeous, although I would definitely want more waves if I was going to spend very long there.  But the sand and water were beautiful… you could actually see the bottom!

For the race, I finished 3rd in my age group and was generally pleased with the results, although not elated.  This was a train-through race, meaning the only taper I did was a short workout on the day before, which in itself was still tough considering I’d run 9.5 miles the day before, a 30 mile bike ride, and 1800m swim.

This beach is on the Gulf of Mexico so the water was extremely warm, which doesn’t really make for fast swimming.  It was also pretty choppy considering there weren’t really many waves.  My swim split was awful so we won’t even get into it lol.

The bike was ok- I average right about 21 mph.  Also had a fun little crash where the chick next to me didn’t seem to want to move over during a turn and I had to slam on my brakes to avoid smashing into a car.  Couple scrapes but nothing remotely serious.

The run (to my surprise) was totally along the beach.  Ha, ok the beach is pretty and all, but damn.  The sand is hard pack, meaning its pretty firm and not hard to run on, but still not nearly as easy to run on as pavement.  I was able to hunt down a lot of people who were ahead of me from the swim and bike and ended up with the 6th fastest overall run split.  My average pace was about 6:38 min/mile which I was ok with later on once I found out how I did comparatively.

This was also my first race since I had been trying out a Paleo lifestyle/diet.

Now, I know some people may have issue with this: “you’re cutting out an entire food group”, “all fat is bad for you”, “saturated fat causes heart disease”, “cholesterol clogs your arteries”, ”you need grains!”, “you won’t get all your vitamins and minerals.”

While I am not a paleo hardcore advocate, I have done plenty of research, consulted with many people and experts, and will never push this way of eating on anyone else.  I can’t even say I’ll eat like this for the rest of my life- that would be absurd.  However, to all the critical statements above, I have plenty of evidence and research to refute:

While my diet will be lower in carbs, it will be higher in fats which are burnt as a fuel source.  I am also still including carbs in the means of fruits, squashes, and sweet potatoes… I could probably eat butternut squash fries or sweet potato fries every night and not get sick of it

Next, fat is not bad for you!  What is important here is where the fat comes from—all fat that is “created” is bad, i.e. trans-fats.  What is also important is your Omega 6 to Omega 3 balance.  Ideally, these should 1:1 or 2:1 but our diet has most people eating about 20:1 or much much more.  The fat should also be pure and come from grass-fed sources, not from grain-fed animals like is found in most commercial meats.  Remember, “you are what you eat eats”

It has also been proven that saturated fat does not cause heart disease.  It can be exacerbated, however, from things like processed carbohydrates and excess sugars.  I just heard of a study that “showed that saturated fat corroborates heart disease.”  However, this study looked at people eating Egg McMuffins with hashbrowns: White, processed English muffins, pasteurized commercial cheese, trans-fatty margarine spread, and potatoes made in vegetable oil.  I think we have a lot more at play here… plus, the saturated fat would have to come from egg, which is relatively not that high in saturated fat.

Speaking of eggs, I won’t get started on how many articles show that egg yolks don’t raise cholesterol.

Finally, I’m getting tons of vitamins and minerals from the fruit, vegetables, nuts, squashes, sweet potatoes, organic dairy (Most paleo diets leave out dairy, but I am still including it right now—but in organic and raw versions where I can find it), and grass-fed meats.  In fact, I’m probably getting more vitamins now since so many vitamins are fat soluble and my diet now actually has that fat to absorb it!

This is a tough one for me though—the adding of fat.  Since ‘”fat” is what spurred my eating disorder so many years ago, it’s still a tough bump for me to get over.  I am hoping as I eat this way and hopefully see only positive outcomes, that I can change my mindset forever.

Many people also think that paleo just means going low carb because it makes you leaner or lose weight or whatever.  This is what you will see in published studies on “what is the best diet” etc.  In fact, the reason for moving these grains—and most importantly wheat—are for the negative effects the reap on your body.  They have an impact in your digestive tract and cause many issues which I will go into in another post.—I’ve written enough as it is haha.

So, there you have.  I’ll let you know how I progress, but don’t think I won’t still have some awesome recipes!  Here are some of the meals I’ve been making lately as well a bonus recipe video at the end!

What do you think of the paleo diet—are you for or against it?

Would eating this way really be any different, from a societal standpoint than if someone followed a vegetarian diet?

Touch and Go

I’ve officially been in Florida for over a full week now!  The longest I’ve been in one place for the past month.  That being said, I am flying to Nashville tomorrow for work for a few days and come back on Saturday. Anyone live in Nashville and want to meet up Friday night?  Or can recommend any fun things to do?  I’ve been having some fun here in Tampa too this first week and hopefully this weekend will be checking out a place called “Boing”—a huge warehouse filled with trampolines!

I’m also finally getting a race schedule put together: it’s looking like-

  • July 10th: Moss Park Triathlon Festival—Olympic (might do the Sprint on Saturday too?)
  • July 23rd: Siesta Key Beach triathlon—Olympic
  • August 21st: Fall Triathlon Festival—Olympic
  • September 11th: The Nations Tri (in DC)—Olympic
  • September 18th: Mango Olympic Triathlon (MAYBE)
  • September 25th: Ironman 70.3 Augusta
  • October 1st: Disney Wine and Dine Half Marathon
  • October 9th: South Carolina Half Rev—Half Ironman (Probably)
  • October 15th: Men’s Health Urbanthlon Chicago
  • November 5th: ITU Long Course Worlds (Las Vegas)
  • Anyone up for a December marathon?  Somewhere warm!

Wow, that list is a lot longer than I thought!  Granted these are all tentative, especially back to back ones.  But I needed to get them all written down.

Training has been in spurts… it kind of goes like: 2 days of epic workouts followed by painful day of training as the previous 2 catch up with me ha.  This will get better once I can finally get settled any find people to ride and train with.  I did put in 40+ miles running this past week as well as some specific bike workouts and a little bit of swimming.  I’ve been hitting the pool in my apartment building (which is maybe like 23 meters?) for quick, short hard swims before work.  My office also has a “gym” so I’ve gotten in a few lifting sessions at lunch.

Oh!  And guess what—I actually ran IN THE MORNING one day last week and will have to do it again before my flight tomorrow morning.

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about nutrition lately and a lot of research.  The “speech” function of my Mac is amazing and allows me to get through a lot more information since it reads it to me (#awesome) (yes, I just used a Twitter hashtag).  I’ve been researching the paleo diet a lot lately, and while I don’t think I will do it, I’ve been finding incredible information of the importance of eating fats—real fats like grass-fed red meat, egg yolks, butter, full fat dairy (cheese, milk, yogurt), and healthy oils such as olive oil and coconut oil.

This being said, I don’t know that a “diet” is the answer, but rather a cleaner way of living is the best option.  I don’t want to limit myself to giving up entirely certain foods—I’ve been there and don’t want to start rekindling any of my eating disorder behaviors; I still deal with enough of those as it is and it makes life hard enough.

If there are any nutrition topics you want to know more about or would like to see me write some post about, let me know and I will!   Send me any questions as well… and just leave a comment and let me know you’re here!

Katelyn Tweeted an article the other day about schools banning flavored milk in schools.  I have mixed opinions on this.  On one hand, yes its good, decrease the added sugars and unnecessary calories these kids are consuming.  However, by flavoring milk, nothing is being taken AWAY from the milk—all the vitamins, proteins, and minerals are all still there.  But by taking away the milk, won’t kids just be more likely to bring in soda or Gatorade and just find replacements for the milk?  Why not stop serving corn dogs and French fries first before taking away the milk?

What are your thoughts?

And finally, for some fun, here are just a bunch of random pictures from the past couple weeks!

Another attempt at overnight oats

Sign in the stairwell at my office.. really? Like I didn't know there were 9 floors that came before the 10th?

My new parking spot. Worst. Spot. Ever.

Delicious coconut vanilla oatmeal bar

Avocado yogurt cream sauce... sooo good!

Chocolate banana Coffee Honeymilk overnight oats!

Mmmm eggs with mushrooms, onions, and plenty of crushed red peppers (like I said, trying to eat more whole eggs)

I had some leftover broccoli and chicken from dinner so I threw it in a bowl and added some eggs and baked it for lunch

The 2 oddest shaped foods I've ever bought... the cashier laughed at me. The little one is a Jimaca? Not good

Thanks for reading guys and I hope you weeks are off to great starts!  This blog is going to get revamped pretty soon so look for some really big changes!

  1. Best thing you ate or thing you did this week?
  2. Thoughts on flavored milk in schools?  And nutrition or triathlon questions you have for me?
  3. Let me know you’re reading!

Do You

Success!

Movement March was a success! Every day in March I worked out for at least 30 minutes!  I’m really proud of this to be honest and I was also successful in 2 different races. I have taken the past 2 days off and just chilled out and am preparing for an epic peak as I move into this last month before Wildflower. I am going to be ON POINT this next month- great workouts, correct nutrition, and a huge focus on sleeping more!

That moves me to my next challenge for April- which I must do. First, no coming home from work, taking a nap, and then working out.  This gets me to bed too late and just leaves me tired again the next day. Second, not getting up on a weekend, having breakfast, and going back to bed until I go workout.  I will instead go workout in the morning which not only guarantee I go, but also leave me with time in the rest of my day to do stuff.

Something that I have been struggling with a little bit lately is the need to compare. To compare myself to other athletes, and more notably, other bloggers.  I know this is something that a lot of people have written about before, but it really hits home.  When I go on a blog and see that this person ate this (or didn’t eat this) and that they did this workout etc.  Not a big deal if I’ve worked out that day, but if I’ve taken a day off it just makes me feel guilty and awful. I know that I like to Tweet the workout I did after I do it every day and now I’m considering stopping it due to that.  The reason I do it is to keep accountable to myself and because I’m usually so happy after a workout… and Twitter is basically just a steam of consciousness anyway, but you see my point.

Do you ever feel the same way? Here’s what you’ve got to remember:  First, everyone is different! Metabolisms, athletic ability, genes, preferences and so on.  Maybe you see that some “did the elliptical for an hour” and you compare and feel bad for only running for 30 minutes or something.  What I need to remind myself is that everyone is training for different things! Not everyone wants to do Ironman triathlons, Chuck, and that they probably enjoy a good session on the elliptical. I also know that I probably balled out on my run so there is no winner or loser- no one is better or less of a person or athlete based on how they workout!  I can’t tell myself that I’m not as good as someone else based upon a workout!  There’s more to life than clocking hours and miles and calories- “Chuck” is not defined by how much I workout, but instead by the person I really am, my desire, my passion, and the love that I can show to others.

In short, do you. Don’t let comparing yourself to others define you.

Saturday was my first day of going to the gym in the morning (in April, that is).  This was because my friend Thadd and I were going to opening night for the Cincinnati Reds!  It was an awesome day- I had a great workout that really tested me and I also finished it with a 3,100m swim which is one of the longest I’ve done in a long time!

Thursday was the Reds opening day and I got out to take a few pictures:

Reds fans on Fountain Square

My favorite float was the giant inflatable Chiquita bananas. Skyline Chili was also on hand to serve chili coneys… I MAY try the chili before I leave Cincinnati… but maybe not lol

Cheese Coney

Before the game Saturday, we headed out to get some food.  The night before a bunch of us went to the Cyclones Hockey game as got some input on where to go.  I was jonesin’ for some pizza so went to a place with a brick oven.  Not only was the pizza great, it was so healthy too!  Paper thin crust, fresh Roma tomatoes and basil, topped with double chicken breast!

My pizza

Thadd's meatball flatbread

The game was awesome, the Reds won, and there were fireworks after!

Great American Ballpark

Now, I also made an amazing new recipe this week!  Bison stroganoff over homemade whole wheat biscuits.

  • 8oz lean meat (I mixed bison and turkey breast)
  • 1/4 cup milk (and more liquid as needed)
  • 1 tbsp flour
  • 2 tbsp Greek Yogurt
  • Sliced onions
  • Sliced Mushrooms

Start by browning the meat with onions

Brown the meat

Next, remove from the pan and add the flour to the now empty pan.  After letting it toast for a second, add is the milk and stir till combined.  Then add in the onions and vegetables and stir till the sauce comes together. Finally, add your meat back in and let it heat till ready to serve.

Sauce ready to go!

I then plated up a couple biscuits and served the stroganoff over top!  I even put some REAL butter on one half of a warm biscuits… killer!

2 biscuit halves

Yum. Serve with remaining biscuit halves and fresh vegetables

This was by far the best meal I had all week. Here is the biscuit “recipe” as well (if you want to call it that.)  Makes 4 biscuits:

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/4-1/2 cup almond milk
  • 1/4 cup pumpkin

Mix together, form into 4 biscuits and bake at 425 for 12-20 minutes or until they are done.

Since I made 4 biscuits, I tried a similar idea with serving Eggs Marinara over the biscuits:

Top the warm toasted biscuits with laughing cow cheese...

Eggs baked in marinara sauce, mushrooms, and onions! Atop the biscuits

A cool story from this week- through Twitter (Follow me @ChuckFeerick) I won a free entry in the St. Anthony’s Triathlon in Florida from one of my sponsors, GU Energy!  Bummer though is that I am racing Wildflower the day before, so there’s no way I could get to Florida in time without help. I proposed a pretty elaborate plan to GU to help me chronicle the cross county adventure across the US in 2 days racing in 2 epic races.  My friends over at JTwoFilms would have been able to film the whole thing and we could have made a sweet documentary!  GU liked the idea but said they couldn’t bankroll it.  Haha oh well, I tried.

On that note though, be on the look for more developments on the Feerless Food TV Show… we’re about to blow up!

Thanks for reading guys and have an awesome week!

  1. Do you every find yourself comparing yourself to other people or bloggers?
  2. What Easter goodies are you looking forward to?  Cadbury Eggs… ohhh man…

I can be bad all by myself

Another weekend another race!

Lexington Half Marathon--Me in the black gear

This Saturday I was in Lexington (well Mount Sterling), Kentucky for the Lexington Half Marathon.  Unlike, Tuesday and Wednesday of the previous week, which were about 70 glorious degrees, Saturday was colder than the week before when I ran the Cincinnati Half Marathon… isn’t it almost April?!

Brrrr...

When the race started it was 36 degrees and clear skies making it feel even colder.  There were only about 150 people racing the half marathon, and probably equally as many doing a 5k which started after us.  We all lined up on a spray paint line based on our expected finishing time.  I checked out the competition and could tell there were only a couple other people that would provide me a challenge.  We took off and 1 older guy snuck out ahead along with some kid, putting me in 3rd off the gun.  From the looks of things, I thought I may actually be able to win this thing!

As we hit the first hill, my pace slowed and a guy behind me caught up to me.  From then on out he and I ran together and were able to talk a little bit, but being that we were both pushing hard, it wasn’t too much of a “conversation”.  A few miles later we passed the older the guy and the kid, putting us in first and second.  This course was a mess of hills though, and they are not my strong spot!  It was a straight out and back and as we hit the turnaround, the guy I was running with began to move ahead.

Going out was an overall decreasing in elevation, meaning going back would have more up hills…. And the wind was brutal!  All this said though, as I hit mile 10, I was on a new PR pace.  Then the last 2 miles of hills hit.  They were awful!  I literally spent these last 2 miles running up hill which killed my PR hopes.  But as I can into the final stretch, no one was near me and I sprinted across the finish line with a time of about 1:27:30.  Second Place overall and first in age group!  But damnit, I could have won!!  Congratulations to the winner though—he crushed his PR by like 7 minutes, so I had to give him props.

Age group win! So close to an overall win!

After the race I headed back to the hotel where I had my bike waiting for me!  Since I can’t ride outside, I’ve been trying to brick my long workouts together on the weekend, so I hopped on for 2 solid hours of work.  I thought I was going to set the chair behind the trainer on fire, but it didn’t happen, thank God.

Rides like a dream... even on a trainer

After this, I grabbed more food and started my drive to Shelbyville, Kentucky for a sprint triathlon on Sunday.  When I got to the hotel, I spent some time doing contrast heating by jumping in the hot tub and then into the pool back and forth… this actually worked I think!  I wasn’t that sore on Sunday morning!

I wasn’t sore but the weather was.  It basically snowed all night and when I got to the race course there was still snow on the ground.  I looked at the thermometer in my car… 28 degrees.  F. That.  I was already feeling kind of sick from Saturday’s race in the cold and was like, “I’m going home and back to bed where it’s warm”.  So I did just that.

Snow? Really? No thanks.

However, I still did the “triathlon” later that day on my own.  I can be bad all by myself baby!  I did it the exact way it would have been in the morning, I just added some distance.  After a warm up on the elliptical for 15 minutes, I did an awesome spin class bricked with a 3.5 mile run.  Then I hit the pool for swim longer than the swim portion.  I felt really good about this swim time too.

I’m still nervous for Wildflower in exactly 1 month.  Swimming is ok- better than last year, running seems on point, but I haven’t done any of the crucial long bikes with epic runs like I was doing last year.  Oh well, whatever right?  I have plenty more races this year.

I’m also trying to get all my sponsors coordinated again for this year.  So far, I’ve hooked up with HoneyMilk and GU and it looks like I’ll be working with Zensah again this year who make great compression apparel.  I’m working with my main sponsor, Starlight Bikes, in Roanoke, Virginia, to put together a tri kit for this season with all my sponsors on it!  I want it to be black with white and neon green (so it will match my race shoes- vicious right?)  If any one else is reading this and is interesting in discussing a sponsorship, just shoot me an e-mail at chuckfeerick@gmail.com

So as I mentioned, I tried a new recipe a few nights ago- Egg filled tomato shells!  I began by halving a couple large tomatoes and cracking an egg into them, topping with some cheese, and baking them in the oven till the egg was set.

Organic eggs, mexican cheese blend, and hollowed out tomatoes

Baked with the egg inside and topped with cheese... served with sweeeeeet potato fries

They came out pretty well, but as always when trying a recipe for the first time, you learn some lessons.  The problem was the tomato “shells” were pretty soft when tying to cut into them.  Next time, I think the crucial factor will be to pre-bake the tomatoes for a few minutes before cracking in the egg, so that the shells can dry out a bit…which will enhance the tomato flavor as well.

As for the rest of the week since Sunday, I had a couple easier days Monday and Tuesday with some elliptical work with a great lifting session Monday and then a solid ride on the trainer on Tuesday.  Today I was exhausted again though… so after a quick power nap after work I got just what I needed- a crucial 9 mile tempo run with elliptical interviews in between! Talk about being drenched!  Here’s how I did it:

  • 35 minute run–5.3 miles
    • 20 minutes hard elliptical
  • 15 minute run–2.25 miles
    • 10 minutes elliptical
  • 10 minute run–1.5 miles
    • 10 minutes elliptical

Finish it off with some great pushup and work and I came how and made one of the best dinners I’ve ever made!  But you’ll have to wait till next post for that… Let’s just say it involved these:

Homemade Whole Wheat Biscuits!

Tomorrow is opening day for the Reds and Cincinnati is straight balling out about it!  There is a massive parade that I think literally goes in front of my house which should be really cool to watch.  Plus, tons of restaurants and bars are having specials and events.  I’m working from home tomorrow, so I’m hoping to be able to check a lot of it out.  I’m going to the Opening Night game this Saturday.  I can’t wait, as long as it warms up a bit. Bummer though that I have to miss the VCU basketball game.

My buddy Thadd also got us some free tickets to the hockey game Friday night. He is who I am going to the baseball game with Saturday night as well.  We are going to grab some food before the game as well so we can watch the VCU game, but I’m not sure where we’ll go.  Which bring up the point I’m struggling with right now.  I want to go somewhere fun- somewhere unique to Cincinnati that I won’t be able to have again once I leave.  But I’m stressing over the fact that it might not meet “Chuck Feerick health standards” and that we’ll just go somewhere safe.

So here’s my questions for you this week:

  1. Do you ever go out to eat and just order what you want because it’s only ONE meal and you don’t know when you’ll have a chance to eat something like that again?
  2. What are you most excited about for spring?  Any specific events/races or certain types of food?

Thanks reading all this- I know its long.  Have an awesome rest of the week!
